In Memory Of…

Mike Peachey

Michael Thomas Peachey, 48, passed away suddenly of natural causes and among loved ones on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at his home in Oxford, North Carolina. Born on June 12th, 1973 at Camp Lejeune North Carolina, he was the son of Emily Peachey and the late Thomas Peachey. He studied at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. During much of his professional career in Raleigh, Michael applied his natural gift for science and computer programming toward support of medical genetic technologies. In addition to his career, Mike was an enthusiast of music. He practiced several instruments and performed handbells in the Music Ministry program at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. He enjoyed nature, and the open countryside. He was as comfortable developing new information technologies as he was cultivating his gardens and nurturing life from the soil. He shone brightest, however, in his treasured role of father to his two daughters who he shared with his former spouse, Taryn Peachey. In 2020, Michael moved to Oxford, North Carolina with his long-term life partner Erik Robert Funderburk where they restored and tended the ranch that he would come to call The Shire. Mike was a man of peace and gentleness who embodied the very soul of kindness and compassion. His efforts to help lift the homeless to stability as a board member of Families Together was tireless and his contributions to charitable organizations were many. His generosity of spirit was intermingled with his quick wit and gracious sense of humor.

“Mike was a man of peace and gentleness who embodied the very soul of kindness and compassion.””
